Um estudo publicado no Canadian Medical Association Journal, periódico especializado em saúde do Canadá, mostra que os efeitos negativos de uma noite maldormida podem ir além daquele cansaço que nem algumas xícaras de café resolvem. Os pesquisadores analisaram mais de 4 mil adolescentes, medindo Índice de Massa Corporal, colesterol e pressão sanguínea, e descobriram que os que apresentaram problemas para dormir tinham maior propensão para desenvolver hipertensão e ganho de peso. Apesar de o tempo ideal de sono variar de pessoa para pessoa, a Academia de Medicina do Sono dos Estados Unidos recomenda entre sete e oito horas por noite. E aí, já não está na hora de ir para a cama?
