O queniano Geoffrey Mutai completou a Maratona de Boston nesta segunda-feira, dia 18 de abril, em 2h03min02s, 57 segundos abaixo do recorde mundial da maratona. Porém, pelo desnível que há no percurso e outras especificidades, como distância maior a 21 km entre largada e chegada, sua marca não poderá ser homologada pela IAAF (Federação internacional de Atletismo).
O segundo colocado foi o também queniano Moses Mosop, que disputou até os metros finais com Mutai e conseguiu a marca de 2h03min05s, também abaixo do recorde mundial. Terceira colocação para o norte-americano Gebre Gebremariam, com 2h04min54s.
Entre as mulheres, a queniana Caroline Kilel foi a primeira, também em grande disputa com a norte-americana Desi Davila, cruzando a linha de chegada em 2h22min36s. Davila fez o tempo de 2h2240s e a queniana Sharon Cherop foi terceira, com 2h22min42s
