O suíço Fabian Cancellara (Trek-Segafredo) foi o ganhador da última etapa da 51ª edição da Tirreno-Adriático, disputada nesta terça-feira (15) com um contrarrelógio individual de 10 km em San Benedetto Del Tronto. Mas quem comemorou mesmo foi o belga Greg Van Avermaet (BMC Racing), que levou o troféu de tridente (símbolo da competição) depois de vencer uma acirrada disputada na classificação geral, na qual superou o segundo colocado, o eslovaco e campeão mundial Peter Sagan (Tinkoff), em apenas 1 segundo.
O título foi definido mesmo na segunda-feira (14), quando o belga se manteve na liderança geral ao vencer a penúltima etapa batendo Sagan no sprint final. Foi o primeiro título de Van Avermaet na Tirreno-Adriático, que não via um campeão belga desde 1977, quando o vencedor foi Roger de Vlaeminck.
