Barbacena (MG), localizada a 169 km de Belo Horizonte, será a sede do próximo Campeonato Pan-Americano de Mountain Bike, que será realizado entre os dias 26 e 30 de março de 2014. O acordo ocorreu na última terça-feira e envolveu a Confederação Brasileira de Ciclismo, a Federação Mineira de Ciclismo e a Prefeitura da cidade.
Com isso, o estado mineiro será sede do terceiro grande evento seguido da modalidade. Em 2013, Juiz de Fora recebeu os Campeonatos Brasileiros de XCO e Marathon. Segundo a CBC, as características de Minas Gerais favorecem os eventos.
“O terreno encontrado oferece condições favoráveis para a prática do Mountain Bike. Sempre fomos bem recebidos no estado e temos a certeza que essa parceria com a cidade de Barbacena será muito produtiva. Vamos trocar conhecimentos e trabalhar juntos para realizar um grande evento”, destacou José Luiz Vasconcellos, presidente da CBC.
Os atletas terão como palco principal a estrutura do Parque de Exposição de Barbacena, local onde acontecerá a concentração para as competições. A edição de 2013 do Campeonato Pan-Americano foi realizada na Argentina. Henrique Avancini foi medalha de bronze.
