O ciclista JJ Zhou passou 41 horas em cima da bicicleta sem dormir e completou 176 idas e voltas no caminho de 1 km que leva até o acampamento base do Monte Everest, no Tibete. Tudo para ser a primeira pessoa do mundo a fazer um treino com o ganho de elevação total à altura da montanha, 8.848m, no próprio Everest.
O termo “Everesting” nasceu em 2013, quando ciclistas de diversos países passaram a simular uma subida no Monte Everest de forma inusitada: subir qualquer montanha repetidas vezes até concluir 8.848m de ganho de elevação total. Mais de 2.200 ciclistas realizaram o desafio desde então.
O chinês JJ Zhou decidiu inovar e realizou o desafio ao pé do Everest, maior montanha da Terra. Acompanhado de um time de outros ciclistas, incluindo Andy Van Bergen, o criador do termo “Everesting”, ele superou chuvas e ventos, sobreviveu à base de macarrão, arroz e chá açucarado com leite, e conseguiu fazer história.
A expedição fazia parte de uma viagem liderada pela chinesa Serk Cycling, empresa especializada em aventuras de ciclismo em toda a Ásia, em que Zhou trabalha como gerente.
