Carlos Barredo (Quick Step) e Rui Costa (Caisse d’Epargne) protagonizaram uma briga feia e desagradável após o encerramento da sexta etapa do Tour de France. Aparentemente, tudo foi motivado por uma discussão por conta do vento que prejudicou os ciclistas nos últimos quilômetros .
A briga foi de grande proporção, mas no final nenhum dos atletas foi expulso da competição; porém, receberam uma multa de 200 francos suíços (149 euros).
As imagens mostram Barredo, irritado, tentando acertar Rui Costa com uma das rodas de sua bicicleta. Na sequência, o espanhol e o português trocaram diversos socos e pontapés, e seguiram com insultos. Por fim, ambos caíram no chão e foram separados pelos organizadores.
Não foi a primeira discussão dentro do Tour de France 2010. Na etapa com término na cidade de Arenberg, Robbie Hunter (Garmin-Transitions) e Jakob Fuglsang (Saxo Bank) também trocaram insultos na passagem pelos paralelepípedos, mas não chegaram as vias da fato
