Na última quinta-feira (13), a Apple entrou com um pedido de reconhecimento de patente para um software que tornaria os pedômetros mais precisos. O aparelho é muito utilizado por corredores para contar passos e, geralmente, é encontrado em novas pulseiras inteligentes e outros dispositivos vestíveis que monitoram a atividade física do usuário.
De acordo com o site Apple Insider, a nova tecnologia possibilita determinar em que partes do corpo o aparelho está sendo utilizado, além de ajustar a detecção de movimentos de acordo com a localização do dispositivo. O pedômetro é, tradicionalmente, acoplado ao tênis do atleta, mas com o novo programa da Apple, poderá ficar preso a qualquer parte do corpo do usuário.
Além do pedômetro, nos últimos meses, a Apple também registrou patentes de relógios inteligentes com funções de monitoramento de atividades físicas. Para muitos especialistas, esses são indícios de que a criadora do Ipod e Iphone está interessada em entrar no promissor mercado de tecnologia vestível fitness.
