O etíope Haile Gebrselassie venceu pela terceira vez consecutiva a Maratona de Dubai, realizada nesta sexta-feira (22) nos Emirados Árabes, embolsou os 250 mil dólares de prêmio, mas ficou sem o U$ 1 milhão prometido pela organização caso conseguisse bater seu próprio recorde mundial de 2h03min59.
Com dores na coluna, Haile teve que fazer esforço para vencer, mas mesmo assim Haile conseguiu fazer o excelente tempo de 2h05min40s. O pódio masculino foi completado por seus compatriotas, com Chala Dechase em segundo com 2h06min33s, e Eshetu Wendimu em terceiro com 2h06min46s.
Na disputa feminina, a etíope Mametu Daska foi a campeã completando a prova em 2h24min18s, superando as favoritas Bezunesh Bekele, que foi a quarta, e Askale Magarsa, que terminou em sexto. Aberu Shewaye foi a vice-campeã, e Helena kirop ficou com a terceira colocação.
