O atleta paulista Fernando Saraiva Reis terminou em quinto lugar na disputa do levantamento de peso dos Jogos Olímpicos Rio 2016. Na disputa, Reis quebrou o recorde brasileiro de LPO, pontuando 435 kg na categoria acima dos 105 kg. O recorde anterior era dele mesmo de 427 kg, realizado nos Jogos Pan-Americanos de Toronto, em 2015.
No primeiro movimento, o arranco (snatch), lutou para levantar 195 kg. Na primeira tentativa de três, ele abriu com 190 kg, na segunda tentou sem sucesso 195 kg e teve que repetir a carga na terceira tentativa – com sucesso. No segundo movimento, o arremesso (clean & jerk), abriu com sucesso 240 kg, mas na segunda e terceira tentativa, 245 e 247 kg, não conseguiu completar o movimento.
O georgiano Lasha Talakhadzeficou com o Ouro com 478 kg. O armênio Gor Mynasian, prata com 451 kg, e o também georgiano Irakli Turmanidze, bronze com 448 kg totais, fecharam o pódio.
