O Brasil recebe pela terceira vez consecutiva o Campeonato Mundial de Wakeboard, Wake World Series (WWS), maior evento da modalidade. A 2ª etapa da competição será realizada entre os dias 13 e 15 de maio, no Clube Serra da Moeda, em Nova Lima, MG, passando posteriormente por Collingwood, no Canadá, em agosto.
Nesta etapa competirão os melhores wakeboarders do mundo. Entre os estrangeiros confirmados estão Juan Martin, atleta Quiksilver, Phillip Soven, Andrew Adkison, Trevor Hansen, Dean Smith, Adam Errington, JD Webb, Scotty Broome, Danny Harf, Aaron Rathy, Rusty Malinoski e Danny Thollander. A expectativa é assistir as incríveis manobras do campeão geral e da etapa brasileira de 2010, Harley Clifford, favorito na disputa.
Também marcam presença Marcelo Giardi, “Marreco”, Luciano Rondi Neto “Deco” (atual campeão da 1ª etapa do Circuito Paulista de Wake), Eduardo Birolli Martins “Jovem”, Mario Manzolli “Marito”, entre outros atletas brasileiros.
Uma das grandes atrações será a estreia de um obstáculo inédito nas competições: um slider de 27m de comprimento com dois níveis de altura, o Step Up, possibilitando manobras inovadoras. “As lanchas da marca americana Moomba passam a ser os barcos oficiais do mundial, também prometendo melhores condições técnicas para o espetáculo”, adianta Mário “Marito” Manzoli, diretor técnico do campeonato.
