Os norte-americanos Andrew Starykowicz e Sarah Piampiano venceram neste domingo o Ironman 70.3 New Orleans, prova que teve os brasileiros Fabio Carvalho e Fernando Toldi no top 10.
Como esperado, Starykowicz fez um pedal insano, 1:57:55, média de 46km/h, o que lhe deu uma grande vantagem na corrida. Com 1:20:39 nos 21km, ele venceu com mais de 5 minutos de vantagem sobre o melhor corredor do dia e vice-campeão, o canadense Taylor Reid. Ele registrou 1:16:27 nos 21km. Completou o pódio o atleta olímpico norte-americano Matt Chabrot. Boa participação brasileira na elite. Fabio Carvalho foi o sexto e Fernando Toldi o 10º.
No feminino, mesmo após uma natação cerca de 8 minutos pior que as líderes, Sarah Piampiano marcou a melhor parcial na bike e a segunda melhor na corrida para vencer a prova (2:17:04 / 1:25:51). Suas compatriotas Sarah Cameto e Laura Bennett completaram o pódio.
