Neste fim de semana acontece a etapa de Lees, Inglaterra, da Série Mundial de Triathlon (WTS) da International Triathlon Union (ITU). A dois meses dos Jogos Olímpicos 2016, a prova é considerada uma prévia feminina do que deve acontecer no Rio. Já no masculino, o campeão mundial 2015 Javier Gomez (ESP) está de volta após sagrar-se campeão europeu nesta temporada.
Todos os olhos da comunidade do Triathlon estão sob a prova feminina, já que todas as favoritas ao ouro no Rio estarão presentes: Gwen Jorgensen (EUA), Flora Duffy (BER), Andrea Hewitt (NZL), Sarah True (EUA), Emma Moffatt (AUS), Non Stanford e Vicky Holland, britânicas que correm em casa. Vale lembrar que a imbatível Jorgensen sofreu uma derrota este ano, mas voltou ao topo do pódio na WTS Yokohama. A única favorita fora da lista é a também britânica Helen Jenkins, apontada por muitos como a única capaz de bater Jorgensen no Rio.

No masculino, os irmãos medalhistas olímpicos Jonathan e Alistair Brownlee correm no quintal de casa contra Gomez. Os três formaram o pódio das Olimpíadas de Londres 2012, com Alistair conquistando o ouro e Jonathan o bronze. Gomez competiu pouco este ano, mas venceu o Campeonato Europeu de Triathlon. Diferente da prova feminina, onde todas as favoritas para o ouro olímpico no Rio 2016 estarão presentes, entre os homens faltam, principalmente, Mario Mola, Richard Murray e Vicent Luis.
Nenhum brasileiro estará presente na disputa, transmitida ai vivo pelo site triathlonlive.tv, a partir das 09:00 do domingo, horário de Brasília.
